Review: Surge Club’s Surge 3D Headphones with Detachable Boom Mic

First there was monaural audio, then stereo, then 2.1 with a subwoofer, then 5.1 and now the Surge 3D Bluetooth Headphones (starting at $79) from Surge Club offers 71.1 Surround Sound audio! If that wasn’t enough, the Surge 3D uses Bluetooth 5.0, last for a whopping 30 hours, and comes with a detachable boom microphone, which is useful for gaming sessions.

The Surge 3D headphones are stylish, with optional colorful accent lighting on the outside of the protein leatherette earcups with memory foam. Those earcups have on-ear, touch-sensitive controls, which is pretty cool. You can answer calls by sliding forward, end calls with a double click, etc. I found the headphones to be comfortable, although the round earcups could be a little larger to accommodate larger ears. I am hesitant to recommend crowdfunded projects; but the company did send me a review unit, so it’s not vaporware. Keep in mind that the price goes up significantly, up to $239, after the Indiegogo campaign.

Pros

  • Stylish design
  • Colorful accent lighting
  • Detachable boom microphone
  • 30-hour battery
  • On-ear controls
  • Comfortable

Cons

  • Earcups could be larger
  • Price goes up after Indiegogo campaign

Final Verdict

The Surge 3D Bluetooth Headphones from Surge Club are beautiful and functional and a great deal at their Indiegogo price.
